Telelogic Rhapsody

Model Driven Development for Systems Engineering, Software Development and Test of Embedded, Real-time Applications or Technical Systems

Telelogic Rhapsody® is an industry-leading UML® 2.1 and OMG SysML™-based Model Driven Development (MDD) environment for technical, real-time or embedded systems and software engineering.  Rhapsody enables reuse of existing software assets, whether source code or model based, provides a flexible development environment for both function-oriented and object-oriented graphical design techniques to co-exist in one environment and improves productivity and quality through validation of the design early in the development lifecycle when defects are less costly to fix. Rhapsody has won numerous awards including the two Best in Show awards at the Embedded Systems Conferences from the VDC; the SD Times 100 in multiple years, taking top honors in the Modeling category; the Model Driven Development Focus of the Embedded Development Arena award; and the Embedded Award for Software at Embedded World 2007 for the Rhapsody AUTOSAR Pack. Rhapsody has been recently endorsed by Embedded Market Forecasters as the tool of choice for C developers.

Analyst Reviews:

Recent data from the Embedded Market Forecasters (EMF) shows that projects using Rhapsody are more likely to be completed according to expected schedules. The latest EMF paper, “What Do You Do When the Horse You’re Riding Drops Dead: Why Model Driven Design is Emerging as a Preferred Best Practice,” reveals that software industry designs are, on average, completed four months behind schedule, costing companies millions of dollars per project. The report states that organizations using modeling and simulation are seven times more likely to make or beat schedules. “EMF’s recent findings validate that MDD solutions like Telelogic Rhapsody 7.1 provide a clear path forward for improved productivity and better profitability,” said Jerry Krasner, Ph.D., MBA, Vice President, Embedded Market Forecasters.

Customer Quote:

“We knew the best way to implement reusable software was to migrate to an object-oriented software architecture, and UML is the standard by which object-oriented software designs are communicated. Since documentation is often an afterthought in software development, we wanted a tool that facilitates design, documentation, and implementation. Rhapsody does it all.”

- Mark Uebel, Senior Software Engineer, Böwe Bell & Howell

Paper:

UML for C: There are three strategies for using the UML for developing C real-time and embedded applications: Object-oriented modeling, Object-based modeling and Functional-based modeling. The last approach, functional-based modeling, is the focus of this paper. Dr. Bruce Powel Douglass outlines how the UML for C process can help developers achieve these goals, and more.
